DJ Anthony Valadez is often a proud Venice resident and in special event of his appearance as of this weekend’s Abbot Kinney Festival (5-6pm on The Brig Stage) they shares some of his favored things about the city:
I was born and raised in the Southern California. I gone to live in Venice close to two years ago whilst still being to this day explore just about every road, avenue, canal and street.
1) Townhouse, located in the heart of Venice off Windward.
This is where the locals all blend in with your tourists of the world who remain across the two hostels located down the street. Décor is on point along with the music is always graat every Thursday night night with yours truly about the turntables (shameless plug). But even if I pass by during the day, it has an old nostalgic feel because speak easy jazz performs and you can always see a few old timers sitting up with the bar.
2) Mao’s Kitchen
The dim lighting, chow mein along with great service always does it for me. I thought that chances are I would be been tired of this food, but I always find myself craving much more! The atmosphere has a lot to do with choosing this spot.
Im unclear who is in charge of the music alternatives but this person is really fashionable! From Bjork to some hip hop through some other portion of the world, Small Threat to Sioxsie and the Banshees, the music activity always helps the mood even though waiting for your food.
3) Intelligentsia Espresso
The entire stretch of Abbot Kinney is a great area with lots of cool shops. Unfortunately due to the recent downfall in the economy several of these shops have closed down but brand new ones have popped up.
Whether the shoe shopping or adding along with your girlfriend to shop for sundresses (wippy) this can be a spot to do so. And the best part will be Intelligentsia is the place to grab your glass of joe while the process. The architecture and spacing alone of this small, but hip, joint is worth your visit. And the quality is actually unlike anything I have ever sampled!

Our own video stream was along this morning due to technical issues, so this is the first chance to notice video of Band of Mounts rockin’ our studios. It’s definitely any session worth revisiting within our archives – the guys were using a TON of fun. Fresh off of a two week break through touring, a rarity just for this band, they definitely seemed excited to be playing together again. It was a scaled down collection with no drummer because Creighton Baett had been at a skateboarding contest regarding some kind. It highlighted frontman Benjamin Bridwell’s vocals, and his harmonies with keyboardist Jones Monroe, which were gorgeous.
The band went through a lot of changes as well as Bridwell says that on their latest album, Infinite Arms, “everyone experienced their hand in the pie” whenever it came to songwriting. He named it a “coming out party” for this brand-new band.
New members include Tyler Ramsey, who put out an excellent solo lp called “A Long Dream About Swimming Across the Sea,” and striped bass player Bill Reynolds, who created the new album from Lissie, “Catching a Tiger,” which we’re playing a lot. One of the highlights was experiencing the new crew take on “Zero One’s Going to Love You,” a new highlight off of BOH’s 3 years ago album “Cease to Exist” — all of the ladies in the studio had been swooning.

DJ Liza Richardson will be cuently on the cover of Assortment as part of their Women’s Impact Record for her role as a songs supervisor on movies and other TV shows — as well as her function here at ! She works on a variety of buzzed about shows, including the new Hawaii Five-0, Friends With Benefits, No Ordinary Family, Deceive Me (love this one!), and Parenthood.
In fact, the soundtrack with regard to Season 1 of Motherhood is in stores today (it’s already been available online since August 31) and includes a bunch of preferred like the Avett Brothers, Eels, Swell Time, Wilco and more.

I think it’s pretty obvious we’re fans of The Business office around here, especially given that we’ve had actress Melora Hardin (who enjoyed Jan), director Paul Feig and after this Ed Helms on the show.
Ed, who is also a former Daily Display coespondent, was as funny while i had hoped, taking all of us on a musical journey during his life – from his / her childhood crush on Dolly Parton with a great appreciation for 80’s rockers The european union and his favorite hangover music, the Cannonball Adderley Quintet.
Speaking of hangovers, the star in the blockbuster movie “The Hangover” gives us a bit insight into how Stu’s song –a cello ditty about a sleeping tiger – came into being. Here is a “bonus clip” from the session which makes me excited for the follow up!
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Gamer (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio cut. Download the latest version the following. You also need to have JavaScript enabled within your browser.
Check out the full Guest DJ set from Impotence Helms here and tune in to the Office season premiere tomoow, Sept 23 at 9pm.

Light, Santa Monica’s free all night interactive art event on the seashore, returns THIS Saturday Sept 25 from 7pm to 3am together with 20 installations by community and international artists. has created a Glow Soundscape, an audio guide to the event curated by Music Representative Jason Bentley. The soundscape is hosted simply by DJs and includes the voices of each artist talking about his or her creations. It also acts as a navigation tool with details on finding each installation the night of the event.
Glow is a biannual celebration produced by the City of Santa claus Monica that challenges our notions as to how cities may be used, bringing together the great physical and cultural riches of our community in a free event. Any time museums sleep, Glow occurs. Download the Soundscape in advance here (oh, and bring earplugs – it’s destined to be loud down there!)
You know while we’re talking about inspiration and collaboration, I do believe I want to start with the solitary record called “Yes I’michael A Witch” where you worked with every one of these wonderful different producers. Just how did you go about reaching out to all of them, getting them in the studio to make this great work? There are some stellar songs on that report.

It had been a homecoming show on Early morning Becomes Eclectic for Avi format Buffalo, a trio primarily based out of Long Beach. They’ve already been touring a ton since the launch of their debut album on Sub Pop records and are heading back out again next month. Avi’s guitarwork experienced us all at the window involving the performance studio and get better at control, watching intently. As Jason mentioned in the appointment, Avi had his electric guitar strapped on from the next he walked into the station. The recent high school graduate instructed a story about honing their chops with a friend associated with his parents who required him to play blues then would critique each overall performance. I guess that’s how you get to be an incredible player before you hits your own 20′s, as proven inside their set! Check out the full overall performance here.
It is my excellent pleasure to welcome to your airwaves, the one-and-only, the wonderful, the inspiring – I think will be the proper word — Miss Yoko Ono. Thank you for coming to spend some time with us. We really appreciate having anyone here.

Sleigh Bells is in no way one of the most buzzed about bands of the year. I watched months regarding hype and excitement within the blogosphere before I heard this duo’s music. Then when I finally popped their CD “Treats” in my player – in bumper to bumper site visitors on my way into Hollywood – I used to be amazed to find that they deserved the accolades. It may not always be music that changes the world or the scope of the audio landscape but when I want to dance, need a burst of energy, as well as when I’m feeling some worry I need to set free, this is the CD I throw on. Should you haven’t heard them yet, I recommend taking a listen – particularly to “Rill Rill” and “Tell ‘Em.” Check out the video regarding “Infinity Guitars.”
School of 7 Bells’ live Morning Becomes Eclectic session was recorded 30 days before one of the Deheza twins – Claudia – thought we would leave the band. It was previously special watching Claudia, Alejandra, and Benjamin Curtis execute as a stripped down acoustic trio– but knowing it’s one of the band’utes last performances in this formation makes it even more compelling.
Look for more about the performance below, but download it when you can – it’s only available through tomoow, 12 2.

From DJ Eric J Lawrence:
The other day, my pals Kevin & Zach of Recreation area the Van Records invited me out to see one of their latest signings, Brass Your bed. For a small label, Recreation area the Van has a monster roster, which includes Dr. Canine, Generationals, and Pepi Ginsberg, so I knew I had been in for a treat.
But oh, what a treat!
This Lafayette, Louisiana-based power pop quartet have that perfect stability of snappy cutting-edge rock & spin tunes with retro splashes and echoes. Their sonic mix product recalls the dynamic, ever-evolving pop symphonics associated with bands like The Flaming Lips as well as Neutral Milk Hotel, moored by a high-energy, straight-ahead approach to rocking, kicking out the jams in a style paying homage to Cheap Trick or labelmates The High Strung (mustachioed, tie-wearing keyboardist Andrew Toups even jogs my memory of an ivory-tickling version of Cheap Trick’s Bun E. Carlos).
Frontman Christiaan Mader’s vocals veer between staying subtly sensitive, world-weary and underhanded, often in the same sentirse. “Begs Me Not To Beg” (video down below!) is one of the highlights from their fresh album, Melt White, simply release last week. Check them out since they criss-cross the country on tour this kind of fall, but be sure to bring an extra pair of socks, since they just might knock the ones you’re wearing clean off!
